Midtown Miami’s Go Green Guide

Earth Day is Friday, April 22nd and considering this is our home, we owe it to the planet to give back.  As it turns out, there are a lot of cool events happening this week, so it will be easy to try out being an environmentalist at least for a day!  Who knows, you may actually learn something and realize that’s it’s easy to be green!

Here’s the short list of where to go green this week:

April 21st

Full moon paddle Miami at Virginia Key Outdoor Center

Full Moon Fever! Catch the most spectacular views of Miami’s Skyline from you kayak or stand-up paddleboard.   Lights are required for these paddles.  No lights, no paddle, it’s the law.  Lights are available onsite for rental or purchase.

ECOMB’s Cinema Green Project: Racing Extinction

ECOMB is an environmental education nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable living practices, fostering environmental stewardship and preserving our community’s ecology.  In Racing Extinction, a team of artists and activists exposes the hidden world of extinction with never-before-seen images that will change the way we see the planet.

April 22nd

Earth Day at Corallon Miami Beach

In honor of Earth Day, Carillon Miami Beach will be hosting a day of free events for hotel guests and Miami locals to celebrate environmental consciousness.

Free samples, guest speakers, and live music.  A portion of proceeds from every Earth Day Burger sold will be donated to Friends of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park.

Earth Day Yoga
In honor of Earth Day, a journey into the Miami Beach Botanical Garden’s green spaces, where local yoga teachers will join forces to lead an outdoor music and yoga event.  The festivities include a guided mindfulness meditation session, musical performances, healthy snacks, and a conscious vendor fair during the sunset affair.

April 23rd

Come celebrate Earth Day with the Upper Eastside Farmers Market, a shoreline cleanup starting at 1:PM, a fruit tree giveaway for City of Miami residents, a recycled art contest for kids, a get fit area, free yoga and a pet area.
Yoga Classes starting at 9am, each hour taught by all the top Miami Yoga teachers and musical performers at a premier location: Deck Garden overlooking downtown Miami and the ocean.
Come savor “food from heaven” as we celebrate Earth Day and the opening of Miami’s most anticipated new plant-based eatery. Indulge in complimentary superfood-infused smoothies, fresh cold-pressed juices, and delicious plant-based bites while vibing to Dj Stell*r.
Come learn how harvesting rainwater can help reduce pollution from stormwater runoff, but also provide a supply of free non-chlorinated pH-neutral water for your vegetable garden, prize orchids, potted plants and much more! Recycled plastic, 55or 60-gallon food-grade drums (rain barrels) are available for purchase at $40.00 each.
Urban Oasis and Chef Pamela Wasabi join forces to bring you a series of Farm-to-Table dinner experiences aiming to elevate awareness about local organic produce and companies, sustainable living, and Plant Based dinning.
Big Blue & You’s annual one-day ArtSea (Art by the Sea) festival brings young people ages 5-18 and their families to waterfront locations around the world where participants create unique art projects focusing on ocean conservation using material from the ocean, recyclable items and a variety of arts and media – all while being filmed for a BB&Y web show.

April 30th

Don’t limit Earth Day to just one day. Let’s also dedicate April 30th to cleaning our waters.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided as will clean-up supplies.  High school students will receive volunteer hours.
