An expansive whitewashed, sun-drenched lobby, composed of natural wood and comfortable canvas sofas, is appropriately elegant. The 15 square-metre main pool, on an elevated plaza, puts the ocean at mesmerising eye level. The narrow rooftop pool is an equally splendid hideaway with 360-degree views. Some of the largest rooms in South Beach are found at this 426-room resort. Executed beautifully by design firm Meyer Davis, they immediately put you in Zen mode with rustic-edged wooden tables, gold coral sea fans printed on the walls and reclaimed Colorado beetle kill pine wood, naturally dyed a cornflower blue due to the insidious bugs.

Beds are plush and pretty, on raised platforms begging to be used, while the bathrooms are equally inviting and oversized with Calacatta marble soaking tubs, rainfall showers with peek-a-boo windows and trough sinks. While not every room has a balcony, many do, and an ocean-facing room is far superior to the city view.
